JR Mendivil’s teaching is infused with joy, a delightful sense of humor that makes
learning fun, and a love of life and movement. These qualities are rare in the field
of personal fitness. They shine through in all his relationships with his students,
and have a deep impact on quality of the time his students spend with him.
His students appreciate his laid back, informal approach and his non-judgmental,
encouraging support. He is skilled in breaking down complex moves into simpler
parts that instils students with the confidence that they can learn.
But it wasn’t always this way. JR has a varied background in corporate
environments - but it wasn’t until he started teaching motion that he found the
joy deep within him.
It was fueled by a long background in martial arts, combined with spiritual studies
in a wide variety of traditions. His innovative approach to fitness is based on the
movement principles of martial arts and balances mind-body and spirit.
JR has practiced martial arts for over 40 years. In 1979 he attained a Black Belt in
Tang Soo Do (a Korean form of martial arts). It was personal experience that led
him to develop his innovative method of fitness.
